Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta in Botswana is renowned as Africa’s ultimate safari wildlife destination. It is a unique wetland system – one of the world’s largest inland deltas, covering over 15 000 km2.  The winding journey of the Okavango River never reaches the sea. Instead, it spreads its flooding tendrils of life-giving water over the vast inland delta. This creates a tapestry of channels, papyrus fringed islands and verdant grasslands, before finally sinking into the endless depths of the thirsty Kalahari desert sands. The delta area, known as the “jewel of the Kalahari” includes the Moremi Game Reserve and Chief’s Island. There are many bush camps and safari lodges in the delta – from the ultra-luxurious high-end lodge, to traditional tented camping safari accommodation. An abundant and diverse variety of African game and birdlife thrive here and the unique scenery is simply stunning. Expect to see elephant, buffalo, zebras and giraffes, as well as many of the predators on the higher ground, once the floods arrive. The Okavango Delta is a safari paradise dream come true!

Cruise silently along the crystal clear water channels of the Delta in a traditional dug-out canoe, called a Mokoro. Explore the tranquil lily covered lagoons and the palm fringed islands, alive with game. You may come across rare animals such as the Sitatunga (a swamp-dwelling antelope) and Pel’s Fishing Owl. Definitely go on an exciting safari game drive or a bush walk. A horseback or elephant safari with an experienced local guide will leave you absolutely exhilarated! Memories of your Okavango Delta Safari will stay with you forever.

You could plan your African safari trip to include Victoria Falls in Zambia and the amazing Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, before arriving at the fascinating Okavango Delta. This would give you the ultimate African safari adventure of a lifetime!
